     · While it doesn't quite match the dizzying heights of his breakthrough Todo a Su Tiempo, Marc Anthony 's third album Contra la Corriente is nevertheless a barnstormer of a record. Anthony is no typical salsa singer -- he's a powerful, bold singer who doesn't follow the genre's traditions. He ignores improvisation and concentrates on love songs, but the very sensuality of his vocals and music is his /10(14).

     · Música tropical · Salsa doesn't get more seductive than on Marc Anthony's fourth LP. The opening ballad, "Y Hubo Alguien," makes it clear that he has the romantic flair of a great pop singer, and he displays that throughout the album. The tempos never get too fast nor the arrangements too cluttered; this is music for dancing very close.

The shame of it all is that I didn't pick up Anthony's album until after Martin's Grammy performance spearheaded the so-called latin music explosion. Although I'm not diverse in the different kinds of latin music nor am I fluent in Spanish, I can say that Contra La Corriente is one of the best albums I've purchased in five years/5().
